Yasuke’s story is an epic journey across three continents, starting with his childhood in Africa, through his fierce battles in India, and ending with his rise as a samurai god in Japan.
The film opens with a glimpse into Yasuke’s early life in Africa. Flashbacks take us into the heart of his upbringing, where he is shaped by the tribal traditions, warrior training, and the constant threat of nature. It is here, at age 9, that he slays a lion in a legendary encounter—a moment that forever defines his future. The flashbacks continue throughout the film, showing his bond with his family, especially his father, who prepares him for the life of a warrior, and his interactions with Jesuit priests who would escort him on a life-changing journey.
Yasuke’s mission takes him to India, where he joins an African general in fighting alongside Indian rulers against the Mughal Empire. Here, his mastery of multiple fighting techniques grows as he combines African and Indian styles, learning the ways of war and the Kama Sutra under the tutelage of an Indian princess. Yasuke’s role in India is instrumental, as he helps turn the tide of battles, earning the respect and admiration of powerful figures.

From India, Yasuke travels with the Jesuit priests to Japan, where his 6’2″ height, immense physical prowess, and unparalleled combat skills set him apart from other warriors. He undergoes samurai training and quickly rises to fame, using his unique blend of African, Indian, and Japanese techniques to become one of the most feared samurai in history. Yasuke’s towering presence, coal-black skin, and ability to speak multiple languages—African, Arabic, Portuguese, and Japanese—further contribute to the myth that he is more than a mere mortal; he is a god among men.
Despite his rising stature, Yasuke’s life is marked by loss. After finding love with a female samurai and starting a family, tragedy strikes. Jealous of Yasuke’s power and influence, the new ruler of Japan orders the death of his wife and child, forcing Yasuke into exile. This final betrayal pushes Yasuke to the brink, setting the stage for his eventual return—a god ready to reclaim what is his.
